George Sidgwick / Gainford Durham

Hello all,

I am trying to find the date of birth and parents names of
George Sidgwick who was born c. 1826 in Gainford.
In 1841 he was around 15 and working in a farm.
Are there any parish records online where I could find him ?

As he married after 1837 - do you have a copy of his marruage cert showing his fathers name?

Somebody called Nicky Cunningham may be connected to this family as he/she has notified transcription errors to Ancestry

I think George Sidgwick married Jane Smart in Darlington in 1852.
I haven't got his marriage cert. I have just started this research actually.
How can I contact Nicky Cunningham ?

You could try looking at the Durham Bishops transcripts for Gainford which can be found here

Select Durham, and then Gainford.
You will have to trawl through the pages to find the appropriate years - they are not searchable by name.

Please be aware that ages were usually rounded down to the nearest five years in the 1841 census, so that someone entered as aged fifteen could actually have been aged anything from 15 to 19. Therefore George's date of birth could be anything between about 1822 and 1826 if you are calculating it from the 1841 census.

In 1871 his birthplace is Haughton and his birthyear 1824
RG10 Piece 4927 Folio 39 Page 33.  A surname correction to SEDGWICK has been notified

In 1861 it is Haughton Le Side - birthyear 1826
RG9 Piece 3707 Folio 65 Page 6

1851 for Haughton Le Side - all children b Haughton
