Sinnott sword
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 14:21 BST (UK) »
A old book I have mentions a Mark Seaton Synnott of Ballymoyer, County Armagh as being in possession of the sword and breastplate worn by Col. David Sinnett at the storming of Wexford. Does any one know how I can find out how to get in touch with him or his descendent's about these items. I would like to get a photograph of them.

hi,
i did a quick search and i think the mention of mark seaton synnott was in 1910 so he is probably long gone.it's possible that the sword and breastplate would have ended up in a museum, armagh museum would be a good starting point; http://www.armaghcountymuseum.org.uk/

the synnott's apparently lived in ballymoyer house.

if they stayed in the family then the only way to find his decendants would be to go through the telephone book, there were a lot of synnott's around the tandragee area.

No Tony, I had not read this one before and found it quite interesting. She mentioned the painting of David and the photographs she had made and passed out. That's what I'm looking for. She alsi mentioned a couple of different book that might lead me to Patrick sinnett. Might he be a brother of Walter? Or a nephew?

the link above was a memoir by ronald hart-synnot or to give him his full title ronald victor okes hart-synnot d.s.o., o.b.e.! the painting you're after survived the ransacking of the house in the 1920's as he says he had it in his posession in oxford.

ronald looks like he has a strong connection to oxford; he had an address in 1947 of st.johns college oxford, exchanged letters with neville coghill of the oxford university dramatic society(1944-5) and there is a halls of residence for students called hart-synnot house in oxford. it might be worth your while contacting the college and seeing if they can help you in some way.

ronald only had one child ,that i can find, who was a vicar in st. stephens church in st. albans, england.there is a very slight possibility that he could still be alive, born 1917,so i can't put his name on here but if you want it then i'll send you a personal message.

ps the two aunts, agnes and ada,who ran ballymoyer house for a while can be found in the 1911 census;http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Rosstrevor/Rosstrevor/246457/
