I think this family could well be the connection . . . James looks as though he is your Thomas's elder brother!

1881 Census - RG11/2738/130/45

James Robinson 47 Quarnford, Staffs - Farmer
Hannah 45
Sarah J 17
Rachel 15
Thomas 11 - as in 1901 census above
Mary 9
Hannah 7
John J 5

Everyone else born Leek

Laurina

But I have to pop out so will fill you in later.

Laurina

1891 Census RG12/2185/153/11 - Prospect Farm, Leek

James Robinson, 56, Head - Milk Seller
Hannah Robinson, 55, Head
Sarah J Dale Robinson, 28, Daug
Mary Robinson. 19, Daug
Arthur Robinson, 9, Son - could this be Uncle Arthur?
Richard Ernest Dale, 1, Grandson

1901 Census RG13/2625/8/7

James Robinson, 67 Head - Farmer, employer
Hannah Robinson, 64, Wife
Sarah J Dale, 37, Daug
Mary Robinson, 30, Daug
Arthur Robinson, 19, Son - Farmer's son - could this be Uncle Arthur?
Richard E Robinson, 11, Son - (probably the grandson Richard E Dale)

Arthur Robinson 2Q 1881 Leek Staffordshire  6b  317

Quite a lot to mull over.

I'd be tempted to look at two of the Arthur's in the 1911 Census. Arthur aged 29 could well be this one. Arthur aged 9 might be Thomas's son

Sorry my son woke up, had to go for a wee!  ;D

Dad likes this one the best so far...

1901 Leek, Piece 2623 Folio 37 Page 30
Isaac Robinson Head abt 1868 Longnor, Staffordshire
Elizabeth do Wife abt 1865 Cheadle, Staffordshire
Isaac do Son abt 1894 Leek, Staffordshire
James do Son abt 1896 do
Thoms do Son abt 1898 do
Arthur do Son abt 1890 do

I eliminated him as he was a Railway Carter in 1901 - I've gone with the 'Farmer' occupation suggested by you. Farming often run in families.

Hi I'm looking for someone my father knew as 'Uncle Arthur' Robinson. He lived in Leek, Staffordshire. My father knew him sometime around 1945. His wife's name was Sally. He was a farmer.
I'm trying to work out how he fitted in with our family. My G G Grandfather's name was Thomas Robinson, b. 1843, in Leek.

Any help would be wonderful  :D

(BTW I'm in Australia and my father migrated here in 1955)

Can't find a 'Sally' for him but there is a marriage to Sarah Holdcroft - not sure if Sally is a pet name for Sarah.

Arthur Robinson / Sarah Holdcroft 4Q 1916 Leek 6b 449

This couple had a daughter - does your father remember if Uncle Arthur had any children?

Edith A Robinson 3Q 1917 Leek, Staffs, 4b 452
Mother: Holdcroft

I think you've done an amazing job Laurina  :D Thanks so much. I'll get Dad to look at it all when he gets back.

Cheers!

Paul

(12 hrs later..) big family debate going on, phonecalls to grandma etc!!  ;D

Grandma (95 y/o) thinks that His wife's name was Sally and they had no kids. Aunt Sally had a sister, Hilda. And there was an Aunt Hannah but we don't know how she fits in!  :P
