I can't find them in the 1900 Census, but various Little Rock city directories (from 1883-84, 1887, 1890, 1893-94, 1895-96, 1897-98, and 1899) list Noah Hamlet, a brick mason/contractor.

However, in the 1900 Census in Little Rock - Big Rock Township, there's a Fred Hamlet, born Nov. 1880 in Arkansas, father b. England, mother b. Ireland.  Also living with him is Noah Hamlet, b. Sept. 1882 with same birth place & parents' birth places as Fred.  They are living as boarders in the home of John Smart & family.  Neither Fred nor Noah have an occupation listed.  There is a WWI Draft Registration Card for Noah Hamlet, living in Little Rock, b. 21 Sep 1883, native born.  It says he was an inmate of Pulaski Co. Hospital, was "mentally defective", and had the loss of his left limb.  It says he has no relatives.

On the Arkansas death index from 1914-1950, there is a Noah Hamlet who died 7 Feb. 1919 in Pulaski Co., but there's no information about his age, place of birth, etc.

There is a tree on Ancestry that says Noah died about 1899 and Margaret died in 1899.  It lists their children as:

-Fred b. 21 Nov 1882 in Arkansas, resided in Duluth, Minnesota per WWI Draft Registration Card

-Noah b. 21 Sep 1883 and died 1919 in Arkansas

-George b. 30 Mar 1885 in Arkansas and died 3 Apr. 1942 in Greeley, Weld Co., Colorado

-Margaret/Marguerite b. 30 Nov 1892 in Arkansas

- Mary b. 3 Feb 1895 in Arkansas

Looks like some of these Hamletts may have had a hard time of things.

I wonder if this mention is of the same Fred:  http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mobarry/news/barryfamilies81.2.htm

I found a Fred Hamlet on the 1910 Census who was an inmate in the State Prison at Folsom in Granite, California.  He was age 26, single, b. Arkansas, father b. England, mother b. Missouri.

I found the following article in the Salt Lake Tribune, Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Odgen Standard, Ogden City, Utah, 11 Aug. 1903:
"Noah Hamlet, evidently a tramp trying to steal a ride, had one foot cut off and the other badly bruised by being run over by an extra train in the Rio Grande yards about 8 o'clock last evening.  The injured man was taken to St. Mark's hospital.  He claims to be a resident of Little Rock, Ark."
