Walter Allcock of Cobourg
« on: Wednesday 24 June 09 15:05 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information for the marriage of Walter Allcock to Edith Mona, sorry last name is unknown. Walter came to Canada in 1924 and went to his sister Maud Campbell (nee Allcock, wife of James Douglas).  Both Walter and Edith Mona are buried in Cobourg Union Cemetery. Any information on the marriage or death of this couple wold be really appreciated.

Thanks

Marriages up to 1927 are held on microfilm at the Archives of Ontario however not all marriages after 1924 have been transcribed. Ancestry's database only goes to 1924. The Ontario Vital Statistics Project website - http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~maryc/thisisit.htm - has some 1925 and 1926 marriages transcribed but not for Northumberland County. Marriages from 1927 are currently being microfilmed by the Archives of Ontario and will be available to the public some time this year however it will be quite some time before they are transcribed. Post-1927 marriages are protected by Ontario privacy law.

You might want to contact the Cobourg Public Library to see if they can help find marriage and/or death announcements in the local paper. Here's a link to their website:

I noticed in your old thread regarding this family you were looking for Walter on a passenger list. From Find My Past, there is a Walter Allcock who sailed from Liverpool on 8 May 1924 aboard the Montclare. His last address in the UK is listed as c.o. Hood opposite Town Hall, Leeds and he was a textile worker. Does that sound like your Walter? Regarding Canadian passenger lists from that time this link to Library and Archives Canada will explain:

Yes Jacquie that is my Walter. I really appreciate you finding his sailing information. Now all I have to do is find out what he did when he got here.

Thanks again

Hi J.J.

Maud was Walter's sister. Maud came to Canada about 10 years before Walter.

Hi I just stumbled across this when doing some family research.  Walter Allcock was married to Edith Mona (nee Fayle)(01/07/1909-11/19/1979.  My mom is one of his two daughters Norma Elizabeth Allcock Clark (DOB 01/16/1937) and Margaret Rose Allcock Reesby (01/15/1938-01/15/2015)  Walter had siblings named, Maud, Rosalind, Violet, Amy, and James.  Edith Mona (from Isle of Man) has twins siblings Harry and Stan Fayle. Stan (Fayle) was killed in war, Harry (Fayle) married Peggy (both of which have passed)
From the years of your post, you've probably already discovered all this?  I noticed Walter did not have a middle name, so made it difficult at times.

Walter also had a sister Lily who was my Grandmother. She was born April 29, 1907 and died in 1994. We all thought he followed his sister Maud to Cobourg but we never knew what he did when he got there. If you need information on the Allcock side let me know and I'll see if I have it.
