WILSON Births - Help Please
« on: Sunday 21 June 09 07:01 BST (UK) »
From various census' I have the births of 3 siblings born in Lintz Green, Durham that I'm trying to narrow down in order to buy their certs.
Esther Wilson B: abt 1879
John James Wilson B: abt 1883
Thomas Wilson B: abt 1886
Parents were William & Mary Wilson.
Can anyone tell me in which district they would have been registered?
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Alternatively you could order the certificates online using the Durham County Council website

Thanks very much to both of you for your time.
I've noted these as possibles previously & should have said I had ordered this Esther's BC with the option for a parent search. The GRO checked it out for me but unfortunately it wasn't the correct one....incorrect parents & not Lintz Green.
From my research Lintz Green was in the town of Tanfield, which is in the district of Lanchester, in the county of Durham but when I do a search for them in Lanchester on Free BMD, I get no hits for either Esther or John James (but one possible for Thomas in 1886).
So that's why I'm a little confused and thought I'd post a query for some extra input....we aussies are a little thick sometimes!!!!
Any further thoughts??

Annie

The 1891 census shows Thomas (and younger sibling Joseph) as having been born in Walbottle, Northumberland, not in County Durham  ???

The 1881 census shows Esther 's birthplace as Tanfield, and the 1891 as Burnhopefield - both of which, as you say, were in Lanchester R.D. (or, if you are looking on the Durham County Council site, Durham Northern) but there is no sign of her registration.

What about Esther Wilson Yourn Lanchester DQ 1878? I believe her mother was christened Mary Uren in Chacewater, Truro in 1854. I think you'll find her family there in 1841 but they appear to have left by 1851. Many Cornish miners were migrating to the Durham coalfield at that time. Young is not a Cornish name so I've been hunting for alternatives. When a child was born before marriage it was often given the names of both parents.
I joined the forum, a couple of days ago, after finding your request for info on James Wilson and Ann Reay. They are my ggg gparents. How did you get on with the search for their parents? I might be able to help.

PS Urens are still in Chacewater, Kenwyn, Truro in 1851 census. Have you seen the free  Cornwall Online Census Project?

My gggmother was a Reed too...some coincidence! My ggfather's birth in 1849 has not been easy to find (more if you are interested). I believe his mother was Elizabeth Reed b 1828 in Slatyford. That would have been Slatyford pit village near Walbottle. I think her parents were Thomas and Isabella. I'm wondering if there could be a connection. What birth date have you for your gggfather Thomas? And when was his photo taken? Think me mad but I have family photos of several generations of Reed men back to the mid-1880s and don't think I'm imagining a likeness to your Thomas. As they say in the NE 'Shy bairns get nowt'

You're right on the mark GeordieXPat...Mary's maiden name was Youren but in tracking the family I've seen it spelt as Youran, Youren, Uren & Yourn.
However on Joseph's birth cert. it lists it as Young! Joseph was my husband's grandfather who married Mary Cartwright in 1913 and then came out to Oz to live.
Thanks so much for the lead on Esther..I would say this is the correct one & will order the cert. (with a parent search to be on the safe side).
If you have any more info on James Wilson I'd be really interested as I haven't been able to find any more concrete info on his parents and exact birth/christening.
What side of the Wilson family are you descended from? James & Ann had a number of children and we're obviously from the youngest, William. Would love to hear what you have on the family.
Cheers
Annie
