Dudley Baptism Records

I am completely stuck on this ancestor! What I do know, he was born (according to all census records) in Dudley (Staffs at the time), died Dudley in 1921 aged 74 so birth year around 1847. He married Hannah Horton in 1872 in Dudley (aged 25 years) and on the marriage certificate it says his father was William Bevan.

There is no trace of a Luke Bevan living with a father named William on any census record, but there is what seemed to be the right Luke living with his parents Luke Bevan & Dianna Cornfield in 1851/61. In 1871 Luke was staying with his brother Thomas and Luke & Dianna were in the next household. Also Luke junior & Hanah named a daughter Dinah, so maybe another clue that his mother was this Dianna.

So looked through freebmd etc for a possible birth registered from about 1844 - 1849 Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire etc etc and there is nothing! There is one in Wiltshire but checking census records in 1851, his father was called Job. Maybe Luke was the product of a fling his mother Dianna had - Luke senior did have a brother William who remained unmarried (lots of guesswork there!)

If anyone does have access to any of the Dudley parish records or has any ideas how I can find Luke 1847 I would be so grateful.

It would be a very long shot, but there is Luke Buzzard Boswell baptised Jan 1846 Dudley, mother Ann Boswell.
Buzzard seems an unlikley name and perhaps this Luke was illegit. and son of William Bevan, brought up by uncle Luke.
None of it is very reliable though - least of all the IGI entry!

Hiya Shirl
Unsure if any help but there is a William Bevan listed in 1881 - RG11 2868 95 15 in Dudley with wife and a son, if you able to trace them backwards to see if your Luke's parents.
Good Luck
