Brightlingsea Look Up - WICK
« on: Thursday 18 June 09 21:21 BST (UK) »
I am hoping someone will be able to help me locate a grave for Albert Thomas WICK born in 1882 in Colchester but was living in Brightlingsea.  I don't have a date of death I was told it was 1958 but Colchester Register Office tell me they have no record of him dying in 1957, 1958 or 1959.  I have contacted Colchester Cemetery where his brother and parents are buried but he is not there.  As he was living in Brightlingsea I presume he is buried in that area. I'm guessing he died between 1950 and 1960.

I know it's a very tall order but any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Lindy

UPDATE - After searching for a while today I managed to find the year Albert died 1969.  He lived to the ripe old age of 87.

Hi Lindy
Have you tried searching in any of the sites whereby you can pay a small fee and search the deaths in the comfort of your own home, very rewarding, you can search quarter by quarter and year by year, as you know when he was born his age should be plus or minus 1 year shown in years in the ledger, it is only a span of 10 years so it wouldn't take long

Good Luck

Hi Louise

Yes I have tried that but there are still gaps missing from the online records also I notice the last quarter is missing off quite a few of the records.  I noticed someone had found a grave on an earlier request and thought maybe someone could help me with cemetery records.  Never mind I will have to try and think of another way round this.

Very often the last (or any other quarter) appears to be missing - but it is just a quirk of the bizarre indexing system.
It happens when an amendment or extra handwritten entry has been made on a page, and for some unknown reason the indexers have taken the last name on the page to be this one, even if it is not the last alphabetical name on the page!
The way to get round it is to enter a name nearby in the alphabet to the one you want, until you get a page up on the screen, then move to the one you actually want with the green arrows. With practice you will find you can often hit the right page straight away!

Hi Lindy

Just come across this old post, if you don't already know he was buried at St Peters Church, Alresford, can't find the grave for Grace his second wife there. His first wife Edith was a distant cousin of mine and i have quite a bit on her if you are interested.

Hi Kevin

Thank you for replying to my post and giving me that information on Albert.  Yes I would be interested to know a bit more about Edith and how you fit into the tree.

I look forward to your reply.
