Help with Locating a Grave, Charles Wilson
« on: Thursday 18 June 09 15:03 BST (UK) »
I need help trying to find out where a Charles Edward Wilson is buried.

He died in 1937 on either the 13th Dec or Sept (very hard to read the writing on the death certificate). I know he lived at 40 York Street, Dublin City. I have checked Glasnevin, Deansgrange and Mount Jerome to find his grave.... with no success

I also contacted the undertakers for this area and also no records for Charles.
Has anyone any other idea how I could find out where he was buried.... Charles was Presbyterian.

.. died in 1937 on either the 13th Dec or Sept (very hard to read the writing on the death certificate).

going by the quarter on this record on the familysearch civil index, I'd say that the date is September

Death

 Name: Charles Edward Wilson
Age: 63 yrs (est year of birth 1874)
 reg district: Dublin South
quarter and year: Jul - Sep 1937
 Vol 2 / Page: 321

I had a look at the Time Archive but have not found anything relating to his death.

my guess would have been Mount Jerome. My other idea besides Glasnevin website and the few extracts on line was the newspaper... which didn't show any results.

There were a few pages around the middle of September which were very faint/smudged..

Also not everyone put their family notices in the Irish Times  .. so  it might be worth checking other Dublin newspapers (Press, Independent etc ) around the date. Of course even if there is newspaper notice it may not mention the cemetery.

if his family came from outside Dublin, he might have been buried in his native area - I've a great-uncle who was brought back to Portlaw from Dublin.
Might be worth looking?

There was a York st in Ringsend and if he was a Protestant the nearest burial area was St Mathews Irishtown. I visit it as a child with the school. There was also a Presbyterian Church on the corner of Tritonville Rd and Sandymount Rd but I think it was converted to flats.

Thanks everyone for your help. Charles was born in Shankill, South Dublin in Rathmichael Parish. I have tried that parish also with no success.

I would have thought he would have been buried in Deansgrange but not. I have not found where his father is also buried. He died sometime between 1911-1915 i guess he is probarbly buried with his father somewhere.

Does anyone know of any other graveyards in the Shankill area that were more than likely protestant?

I know there is a cemetery in Little Bray.  It is called St. Peter's.  My aunt and uncle who lived in Shankill are buried there.  Maybe if you contact there they may be able to help you.
