I am looking for websites that can assist me with workhouses in Manchester area.
My GGG Grandfather James Collier and his wife Ann, died in 1844 and 1849 respectively, leaving behind three younger children, William b. 1836, Margaret b. 1838 and David b. 1840, apart from elder children Mary Ann b. 1822, Sarah b. 1824, John b. 1826 b. Ann b. 1828, Thomas b. 1831 and James b. 1834.
1851 census has not assisted me as to the younger children's whereabouts, nor the 1861 census, so I am thinking that maybe the younger children were put into workhouses after their mother died in 1849. They would have been 13, 11 and 9 at that time. Cannot find them living with elder siblings in 1861 census.
Any assistance that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
