Brocksopp/Peat marriage 1924
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 20:25 BST (UK) »
Just been to visit an elderly relative in Nottingham who would like to find out more about her family tree.

Her parents names were John Brocksopp and Mabel Peat. I`ve found their marriage using FreeBMD. They married in Manchester June quarter 1924 ref 8d 377.

She has no money to carry out research but I volunteered to find out what I can. I appreciate I could purchase a duplicate marriage certificate but was wondering if anyone has access to information without going to this expense. I currently have subscription to Census information which runs out next month, so if I could get started with parents names and locations then I could probably access more details via the Census.

I appreciate this is a long shot and a big ask but was really hoping someone might be also researching these names and could help me with some information ;D

Many thanks in advance for all contributions, advice and suggestions.

Hi,

Without the name of the church a marriage would be virtually impossible to find as a "look up" at the records office.  Unfortunately at present the marriage does not appear on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk  .

Does your relative remember any of the names of her fathers brothers and sisters at all or her mothers? or even her grandparents names.  Does she remember exactly when her parents were born and if so when?  It may help to find them on the 1911 census.  Well at least the Brocksopp side as there don`t appear to be that many.  However it is a name that could well be mistranscribed.

Just a few thoughts, but the marriage certificate would be the only way to be certain.

Regards,
Mo

Hiya Mo,

Many thanks for your prompt response and the information you enclose. ;D

I`ll have to ask my relative some more questions. I do have the names of her two brothers as well as obviously her parents John Brocksopp and Mabel Peat. I have no other dates or grand parent names. :(

I did carry out a check for John Brocksopp on the 1911 Census and a search came up with 6 results, process of elimination using the 1924 marriage as a guide reduces the results down to three but this is only guess work on my part.

I`ll let you know how I get on, thanks very much for your keen interest and helpful thoughts

All the best Steve

Hi Steve

:) I am researching one of those lines......the Peat line. I can tell you who were Mabel's parents and grandparents certainly.  Send me a private message with your email.
