Hi Gina,

Can you give us an idea of what dates you're talking about?

That would be a great help.

Dara.

I think it would help if you could be a bit clearer about dates- is 1881 when you think Frances was born? when her father married? etc.

Closest I can see in civil registrations is Frances Penston birth July/Sept.1888 Dublin South registration district. Also see 1918 marriage in Gorey (Wexford) registration district.
Civil registrations also show a George Penston marriage 1876 Dublin South registration district.

Checking IGI (www.familysearch.org) it looks like George Penston's (1st?) marriage to Catherine Byrne took place before 1864.
1. Julia born 2 Nov.1864 Co.Dublin
2. Sarah born 31 Mar.186 Donnybrook, Dublin (mother- Kate Byrine, page 78 in civil index)
3. Mary born 9 Nov.1867 Co.Dublin
4. John Joseph born 6 May 1871 Co.Dublin
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

there's a marriage of a George Penston listed in the Civil Index :

 Name: George Penston
 Registration district: Dublin South
 Record type: Marriage
Registration date - quarter and year: 1876
 Volume: 17 / Page: 764

He could possibly be Fanny's father... the district is correct for a person living in Thomas st. There are a few children with father George Penston listed on IGI - maybe from George's 1st marriage  :

 Julia - 2 Nov 1864 , Dublin
 Sarah - 31 Mar 1866 (0786), Donnybrook, Dublin
 Mary - 9 Nov 1867 , Dublin
 John Joseph - 6 May 1871 , Dublin

parents George Penston & Catherine Byrne

amazing aghadowey .... we independently came up with almost the same response! sorry for double posting
