Greetings....
I have been researching my fathers side of the family tree, but pickings have been a bit slim. I found a witness to my Gt grandfather's wedding (John Charles Mansfield) on 11/11/1918 at the consulate in Cairo. This witness was called Ellis Mansfield. I have been trying to find out what kind of (if any?!) family relation he is. Unfortunately I don't have much detail to go on.
The only information I have found is from an 1881 census which lists Ellis age 20 as a scholar living at 142 Ebury street, St George Hannover Square, Belgrave. (Class: RG11; Piece: 100; Folio: 36)
However, what was interesting is that Ellis' birthplace Timsbury Manor, Hampshire in 1861, is the same birthplace as John Charles Mansfield's father ( also called John Charles Ellis Mansfield b.1860) for which I have the birth certificate. Hence the posting in Hampshire.
So what I'd really like to know, what kind of place was Timsbury Manor? John Charles Ellis Mansfield's father (Charles Edward Mansfield birth found IGI in 1828) was in the army and I have only been able to find him in the 1851 and 61 census at all... have found no record of his death...
Was there an Army base near there?....I know that Charles Edward Mansfield was in the 33rd Regt of the Foot, but there were family connections to the 60th Regt of the Foot also through in-laws who were def more powerful. My family (as far as I am aware) have no connection to this area apart from the one birth that I found...
Any info or suggestions about how to find more information about the mysterious Ellis...?
Thanks, Laura
