Hi Adam.... I see what you meant about 'not so well kept' ....... just been and found the headstone ....... (the last one I looked at).

It seems to have sunk a good 2 feet ..... one thing, it wont fall over.
Hope nobody thought my husband and I were grave robbers.......digging in the cemetery.

I would never have found it without your help...thanks.

there's another inscription further down.

'Also Margaret second wife of the above named George Milburn who died at Etherley May 7th 1872 age 72 years.'

So now I know they are all there ..... a threesome..... I took some good photographs.

Thanks, very much appreciated.
Jean

forgot to ask Adam .... you don't have a John Milburn died 1913 anywhere in the area ...... his wife mary is the one you gave me buried in Crook 1919......I was wondering where he is!!

Hello Jean. The only other John Milburn that I have is  another John and Mary Milburn buried at Satley but that burial is 1891.
I do have Milburn inscriptions at Stanley(Crook) Howden le Wear, Willington, and Tow Law(but not John)

I wonder what happened to John Milburn....... he died six year before Mary and I don't think they left the Crook area ..... they were living in West Roddymoor in 1901 in St Catherine's Parish Crook.

He's my g.g.grandfather ...... I haven't sent for his death cert yet ...... I suppose that's my next step.

Can you put the Milburns up that are in Stanley and Tow Law if you have the time please,

Thanks Adam

Thanks Adam...that's brill ....Laidler Milburn was my g.grandfather and Ellen was his third wife, they were at Sunniside in 1901.... gosh the family are all spread out across the area when they died.  Laidler and Ellen went down to Herne Bay in Kent.... so they will be buried down there.

I think the Tow Law headstones will be mine as well

thankyou again......you're a star

Jean

Hello Jean. Here is the inscription for Milburn at Crook.

In loving memory of  Mary, relict of the late John Milburn of High Hope street, Crook, Who died January/10/1919 age 81 years.

Adam

Adam ...when you say Crook .... do you mean High Jobs Hill ?

I found young Sydney's today in Stanley Crook ........ but what a size High jobs Hill Cemetery is ...... I had a quick look in the old part over the wall but couldn't see anything ...... thought I'd just check with you first before I go round the lot.
thankyou

Hello Jean.
The graveyard is at St Thomas, Stanley, Crook.
Go up through Roddymoor and turn left at the top.(I think it is the B6299)
The church is a little way down on the right.
I did not do the ones that were over the wall, to the right.
They were in a poor condition and anyway the weather was freezing.  I think I may force myself in to completing them sometime.

Yes Adam......that's where I went today ...St thomas, Stanley Crook ...... and found Sydney Milburn's grave...... It was the cemetery for just Crook I was meaning ...... is it the cemetery between High Jobs Hill and Low Jobs Hill. ... I don't really know what it's called.....but it's quite big. ... with a low wall at the front.

It doesn't really matter Adam ...... I going back up to look round anyway ......

There's quite alot of cemeteries in the area when you start looking.

thanks again
Jean

I forgot to say .... boy! it must be a labour of love doing all those headstones ....you deserve a medal .......
