Yates Childwall

Sarah Yates and James Phythian were married May 1832 in Childwall Liverpool but I don't know which church.  Can anyone help please.  I want to know the name of Sarah's father and any other details available.     B

Hi,

The batch number shown on the IGI is for All Saints' Church, Childwall.  Unfortunately marriages before Civil Registration in 1837 did not show the fathers names.  The most it will show is their names, occupation and abode (which may just state "of this Parish") and the names of the two witnesses.  Sometimes the witnesses were church officials.

Hi did you find out the name of Sarahs father. was it Joseph?

The registers are still at the church, I think, though transcriptions of some early registers have been made.

               I think I have found you some info on Sarah Yates, it sound like you are right about Sarah being Jane's sister, Sarah was Christened 16th October 1814 in Maghull, Lancashire, Father Joseph and mother Martha, I have Jane Yates born 1826, 12 years later, Father Joseph Yates and mother Martha Garner, Joseph and Martha where married in Maghull, liverpool in 1813.

Hi Ivor. Jane's father I have as Joseph but was never sure of the mothers name. It may be Martha as Jane's sister was Martha too (died in workhouse ). I have them living in Woolton at one point. Not sure how far that is from Maghull? Jane of course married Edward Weigh. Are the Yate's in your family tree?

Thankyou very much for the information which I was really pleased to have.  Sarah Phythian nee Yates had a son Joseph, probably named after her father.  Where do they come on your tree Shirlsanne?  Sarah nee Yates and James Phythian were living in Woolton in 1841 and their daughter Sarah was born there.  They moved to St Helens before 1851.
