Hi, it has been a while since i posted on here but we are looking for some info on the wife of
David Thomas  b 1855 and living at Wen Fawr, Welsh St. Donats the 1881 census shows him
still living at home, we thought we had found his wife (Jane) but the inscription on his headstone
shows his wife as Catherine ? any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dai  8) 8) 8)

I can see 2 Catherines born Llanharry ca. 1858/1859 on the 1881 census - Catherine Hopkins or Catherine Jones. - oh dear  :P

There's a Catherine Jones - David Thomas marriage, Mar 1882 Bridgend 11a 657 but with a common name like Thomas, your best bet would be to purchase a birth cert for one of the children to check Catherine's maiden name*  :-\

*They have a 6 months old son Edgar Noah showing in 1901, whose birth is easy to identify:
Edgar Noah Thomas
Dec 1900
Bridgend 11 825

Tati,
thanks for the info on Catherine, after some new proding of my Father he gave us the name of his grandmother, which has changed in the last 12 months so we now have to look at a different family line, Edgar is my paternal grandfather.
thanks again

Hi Dai

I believe that the wife of David Thomas (b.1855) was Catherine Jones (the daughter of David and Sarah Jones).  They were married at Ystradowen, 14 Feb 1882.

Jane Thomas was David's sister (my gg grandmother).  She married William Jones of Maesyward.

Hope this helps.  Best wishes,

Ruth

Thanks Ruth
My dad gave us his grandmothers name as Jane, but I think he was confusing his maternal grandmother with his fathers sister,
thanks again

I think all this info. may be linked to my mother's family. I have traced a Jane ? to Wernfawr in WSD, and have a photograph of her family. It may be Jane David or Thomas. All I know is she was born in 1853 at Wernfawr and married William Jones in 1873.

Hi Farming F.
And welcome to Rootschat

Janes surname was Thomas and here parents were Noah Thomas and Mary Griffith, Mary's family we can trace back to John Christopher who died 12 Feb 1716 in Llantrithyd.
If we can help in any way please ask and we will try!!
