John Orr born 1820 died 1891-1901
Wife Jean Marshall born 1826 died 1871-1881

Thomas Orr born about 1793 died about 1865
Wife Grace/Grizzal Watson born 1797 died 1874

George Watson born 1771 died 1846
Wife Elizabeth Harvey born about 1765 died 1836

George Chisholm born about 1822 unknown death date
Thanks so much!

Re: Carnwath Graveyard - Russel(s)

Hello,

I am tracing my family who seem to have been based in Carnwath for generations. So far death dates are hard to come by so I wondered if anyone could advise whether any likely candidates are buried in the churchyard. Some names and dates of birth are:-

Name              Birth
Russel, George     1804 - Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Russel, James     06 Oct 1765 - Carnwath
Russell, George  20 Oct 1847 - Carnwath, Lanark
Russell, Isabel  13 Jul 1841 - Carnwath, Lanark
Russell, John Campbell  2 June 1838 - Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Any hints as to how to get to the deaths would be greatly appreciated - it seems they are not available via Scotland's People :'(

Many thanks!
Mildred

Hi Mildred,

You may struggle with the earlier births as the may have died prior to 1855 when it became legal to register al BMD's.

Have you found them on census records to establish if they lived in the Carnwath & have you searched for marriages?

You may find that a single initial only & soundex (for different spellings) may turn up something ?

If not, they may have moved area?

Annie.

Hello Annie,
Thank you for taking the time to reply! I was hoping the older ones might appear in the churchyard as you are right about the census - there seem to be lots of Russells which are not obviously my relatives and a farming family which is (so far) not related to my miners. I will widen the search as you suggest and have found a book which seems to list burials and mortcloths on another site which might shed some light on it too.
Thanks again for your suggestions - much appreciated :)
Mildred

There are definitely headstones in the churchyard with the names Russell and Russel. I remember seeing them when I visited a few years ago
