I would say Wm, short for William, but there are so many loops comnig down from the line above, arent there, for it to be clear!
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex

Green - Suffolk

Yes Liz - the word above is 'accordingly' and the g and y drop down. On enlargement, it could even be Revd Mr McDowall.

Added - i think it is Mr now -look at the superscript letter at 300%

Is it significant that the groom appears to be a Peter McDowall?
Could the groom and Reverend be related?
Just a thought.

Thanks everyone for the help. I also wondered if there was a family connection, but there seem to be a
lot
of McDowalls around!
Both Wm and Mr both seem to be good guesses. I just can't quite figure out the big loop at the beginning that's against the loop of the g from accordingly on line above.
And does anyone know if Reverend Mr. is/was a common title found in marriage records of the time?
Actually, the big loop I mentioned before looks remarkably like the one in M of McDowall

That loop looks the same as the loop he puts in his 'M' at the beginning of McDowell

Hi kgbroadfoot
I've seen the Revd Mr <surname> in many Scottish records so it was not unusual at all.

I wonder if this is Rev Mr McDowall. Comrie is not far from Alloa and Rev Peter McDowall was minister of the Moncrieff Memorial UP Church in Alloa from about 1825.
