Hello hiraeth,

Sorry for not having got back sooner. I have been looking into bits and bobs that I have access to. I can't see that William was given a pension as he didn't serve in the Force for long enough. I was at TNA today and had a look in the Police Orders but couldn't find out anything more than to confirm that he left when he did.

I've just had a quick look and remembered the police Service Records which may state more about his service record; including his leaving - which could be under MEPO 4/370. If I remember next time, I'll have a look for you, but if you know someone else who's going they might be able to order it and look for his warrant to see if it includes further information surrounding his leaving, which might help. Or TNA have an online ordering service - if you want to give it a try.

Hope that gives a little help, BarnabyP

Hi BarnabyP

Thank you VERY much for looking.   I've copied your message to another descendant who lives in the UK so fingers crossed we can uncover more about the mystery ;)

Hello Jaz,

Do you have any more information about when he would have served in the Force.

Yours, BarnabyP

Hi BarnabyP

I was wondering if you had any info on my Great Great Grand Uncle Frederick Joseph Dyer who served in the Metropolitan Police force from about 1902 to when i don,t know but he was still in it in 1911.
I believe he was in J Division.

Many Thanks :)

Hello Jaz,

The nearest I can get is a Francis Joseph Shepherd. He was serving in the Force until 1901. His warrant no. was 79719. He attested in 1894 in division N, which would have been around Stepney, but left from division W, which would be around Westminster. This mostly fits with the information that you have provided other than his middle name.

 - Attestation Ledgers MEPO 4/355 page 119
 - Alphabetical Registers of Joiners MEPO 4/336 page 302

Hope that helps, BarnabyP

P.S. Sorry for the delay, works been keeping me a bit busy at the moment.
