Hi, have just joined and hope someone will be able to help with my research.
My main area of interest is men who served with the Royal Irish Fusiliers in the Great War, one of the men I'm researching went on to serve in the Metropolitan Police.

His details are John Rushmoore (Rushmore on one of his medals) and the reference to the Met comes from a note on his medal index card with a 1921 enquiry from the Met about what medals he was entitled to (1914 trio)

There is also an article in the Regimental Gazette, when as part of a Met Police Entertaiment Troupe he entertained the London Branch of the Old comrades association in 1925.

Thanks for looking

Andy

Hello crimea,

I have a John Rushmore as leaving in 1942-10-06 with warrant number 107275. His date of joining was 1919-10-27.

Is this the person that you are looking for?

Barnaby,

Thanks for your reply, It could well be him. I don't have any other reference for his police service apart from the request for info from the met on his medals index card. Is it possible to obtain service papers for his time with the met?

Kind Regards

Andy

Hello Crimea,

I'm going to provide you with links to the photos so that you can see all the information that's available on them. Some of the information might tally with details that you already know i.e. the division.

- Registers of Leavers
- Attestation Ledger

I believe that the Metropolitan Police might have his service record - try emailing the Historical Collection; at the bottom of the page. There is also a good chance that he had a police pension and this would also detail information about his career and some personal details - most likely MEPO 21/87.

Yours, BarnabyP

Hi

My understanding is incomplete divisional records for A, B, E, F, G, H, K, L, M, N, R and Y divisions are held by the Metropolitan Police Historical Collection for officers who were serving on or after approximately 1932 at Friends of the Metropolitan Police: http://www.fomphc.org.uk/viewpage.php?page_id=1

Hello,

I have been working on mapping the police stations from a 1914 police map and would like to share the results.

It's not wholly accurate, I'm going to put there now. I haven't got around to overlaying the districts, but will information somewhere and link to it from the map, so that people can use it that way and then eventually I'll work out how to add it to the map itself.

Hope that this is of use for people. Consider it very much a work in progress.

Yours, BarnabyP

I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I've found my great grandfather on the register of leavers: William Slater - MEPO 4/343 pg203.
However written by his name is RP and I don't know what this means.  I have a feeling it's not good!

Regards
Sue

Hello Sue

Worry ye not, RP means Resignation Permitted. It's just the Met agreeing that the officer can leave.
