Ancestors in Cheshire/Shropshire
« on: Friday 12 June 09 00:18 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am just beginning to trace my ancestors in the Cheshire/Shropshire area.
I know the Nevitt side of my family originated in Whixall and the Stevenson side came from Malpas/Whitchurch.

I was just wondering if anyone on here have a connection with these areas?

Thanks.

Hi Curttom and welcome to rootschat.  :D

Can you give us some full names and dates for the people you are hunting? dates such as birth, deaths, marriages etc  will help define your Nevitts.

Have you found any of them on the census?

Thanks for your reply Charlotte,

My grandmother was Margaret Nevitt born Bradley 1884 and I think if I am going down the right line her parents were John born Whixall 1857 and Emily nee Jennings born Whitchurch 1859, John's parents were William and Sarah nee Calcott.
This I have found from the census but as I am new to this I am hoping that I have got it right!

My grandfather was Albert Henry Stevenson born Whitchurch 1885 but I don't seem to be able to get any further with that line. .

I know that when I was born in Tilston, my grandparents also lived there in 1955, (my grandmother died just a few days before I was born).

I also had an uncle in Shocklach.

Unfortunately apart from one cousin, there are no relatives alive as far as I know, so I am not able to speak to anyone re family history.

Thanks for your interest,

Curttom.

Hi and Welcome, Curtton  :)

Albert Henry Stevenson's  birth registration is:

December quarter, 1885, Whitchurch South, vol 6a Page 712

His birth certificate  will give the names of his parents.

You can order this online at:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

It will cost £7

I used FreeBMD to find the reference -  http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

You can get similar information for Margaret Nevitt on that site  and for her parents' marriage.

Glad you're enjoying it  :)

I did have a look for your grandfather on the 1891 but couldn't find a really promising one, even using Bert and Harry and Stephenson as alternatives, so I think the birth cert might be the only way of being sure of his parents.

I have ancestors  in Shropshire and Cheshire too  :)  If you need detailed local help, you can ask on the county boards:

Shropshire:

and Cheshire:

Yes Gadget, I think I might have to order the certificate as I am not having much luck with his parents.

Thanks again, it makes it more difficult  with Malpas and Whitchurch being in different counties.
I think that Malpas is more likely to be where Albert was born but I can't be sure. I am going to ring my cousin tonight to see if she has any idea.

Are your ancestors in the same region?

I will also try the county boards, thanks.

Regards

Curttom

Hi Curttom  :)

Mine are borderers - Shropshire/Denbighshire/Cheshire/Flintshire and Montgomeryshire, Merionethshire and Staffordshire thrown in for good measure  ::)

They do try to tease us don't they  ;D

I didn't see a Malpas birth though  :-\

Hi Gadget,

I thought I had problems!

My cousin is going to ring me back tomorrow as she was going out tonight, it is possible that she will be able to confirm a Whitchurch birth for him, but I maybe will send for the certificate anyway.

Why oh why didn't I think to do this when Mum and Dad were alive! It would have been so much easier.

Thanks again anyway,

Curttom.
