The 1851 census is at this link:-

http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/services/depts/comres/library/census_search.asp

A search for Carronbridge as a keyword gives 14 pages of individuals (264 people)  if you let me know which household in particular you are interested in - if it's possible to tell.  Give me the names in the house and a couple of doors either side as judged by the household number.  I have access to all Dumfries films - no indexes- at the library so I can try to find the same house on 1841/1861/1871.  I have 1881 on Disc but it is difficult to find a house wuithout a name -if you have any clues let me know and I'll search.

Cheers,
Pam ;D

Hi Pam

Thanks for your reply. The number of the house is 39 and next door is 40 ( so i assume that they're numbered like this throughout the village. I have been told that in the 1851 census the house is called the School House and the occupants were Agnes Armour her 5 children ( James, Janet, John, margaret and Thomas ) and also a lodger Thomas Underwood but i'm not sure if this house was actually classed as the school house in 1851 or not ?

Appreciate anything you could find out for me from any year.

many thanks
Lynne

The problem with census are the numbering and order is at the whim of the enumerator.  Your lucky if it is called the school house - I'll check the other years tomorrow at the library - unless sks gets you an answer before me.

Cheers,
Pam
