Every one of the IGI entries for this marriage but one are those submitted by members of the LDS church. I don't know if you are aware of the difference?

Such entries are purely the submissions of individuals who may or may not have done the research! i.e. not to be trusted without verification.

If you look at all the entries, the only one which purports to be transcribed is in Batch No. M157791, and even this doesn't have a true source reference (usually trabscribed from the actual parish registers).

This one entry gives the marriage as taking place in Thatcham 3 Nov 1794 and the bride's name as Sarah JONES.

If it's any help, I have the St Mary, Reading PRs on CD, and the marriage is not listed as taking place there - so Thatcham is certainly looking favourite.

Thanks Jill

Yes, I am aware of problems with the IGI - that's why I'm looking for verification. I see that the Reading St Mary's registers are available - may buy the CD as in fact several strands of my tree are from Reading.

Unfortunately I don't think the Thatcham registers are available yet and I'm about 250 miles away from the records office.

However, records are appearing online by the minute so I live in hope.

(SEAX (Essex) are putting scans of the registers on and they seem to be adding more each day.)

Happy hunting
