Thomas Sugden (born 1874) at Farnhill
« on: Tuesday 09 June 09 20:43 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the maiden name of Thomas's wife, who was called Ellen.
They lived in Farnhill and he was a painter and decorator.

Did they have any children? It might be easier to find her maiden name from a child's birth certificate. Where is the nearest registration district to Farnhill?

Hi both,

Searching the 1891 census for a possible Ellen, my favourite candidate is an Ellen Barrett (living in Farnhill and born 'Junction')

There's a marriage

Ellen BARRETT - Thomas Sugden JACKSON
Dec 1897 Skipton 9a 54 (Skipton covers Farnhill)

Maybe?

Now I'm searching where the name Sugden comes from!

I believe this is Robert and Grace's marriage:
Jun 1863 Skipton 9a 48
Robert Jackson - Grace Baron

I can't see Robert as Sugden until 1871. In 1861, the best match I can see for Robert is at Farnhill, a Robert Jackson age 21 (born Farnhill) lodging with a William Sugden
(there are other Sugdens in the neighbourhood)

Not sure where to go from there yet  :P

Added:
Aha! 10 years earlier, Robert Jackson age 11 born Sutton is already visiting the same William Sugden (then aged 43) in Kildwick!

Not certain it is relevant,         but there is  a Will for William Sugden, of Farnhill which was proved London, 27th February 1880 by the oath of Robert Jackson, sole Executor.    Mentions Robert Jackson of Farnhill, my Book Keeper and Mary Ann Jackson my daughter.    William said to be a Coal Merchant and part boat owner was in partnership with Thomas Sugden.
