Glad to see you got it going, I know I'm coming to this a little late but I just noticed what you said about the green images.

I used to have a flatbed scanner that did the same now and again and I took a guess that it was light coming in, sounds daft but I placed a telephone book on the lid to weigh it down and things were much better after that.

Scanners can be affected by bright light within the room - they particularly don't like fluorescent lights or the new low-energy bulbs, so in placing a heavy object on the lid, you were probably improving the light seal.

Irene

Hi Irene,

I am delighted thanks a million, but may I mention that the RAF had brass buttons, and that dad's hair was lighter, otherwise it is perfect!  Thanks again, I am very thrilled with that  ;D   :-*

Hi Nick and Mary A,

I did try the weight on the lid etc before I asked for help.

 ;D ;D

Morning Jcred,

I am about to scan the picture of Mum and see what happens, one silly quesion though, should the new software have removed the old image zone?  I uninstalled the 3500 but of course I did nothing else!

It comes up with a message that says, that 'an outgoing call cannot be made since the application is dispatching an input synchronous call'  I would have assume that that it is trying to synchronize the two lots of software ???   But I would have expected the uninstall to have removed everything to do with the old scanner  :-\

Hi Irene,

That is wonderful thanks so very much.

My dad would be thrilled to see himself in colour like that.

Rabbit, its a while ago since I worked at HP and not so familiar with the latest software, if I were you, I would call their software support with error message as it means nothing to me.

Rabbit,

My software is showing both the images you scanned with the new scanner as 72 dpi.  Is your scanner resetting itself to a low resolution when you use it?  The HP software that came with my scanner continually reset itself to 96dpi every time I set it to 300 - the reason I went over to VueScan.

Hi Robert,

According to the scan I did on the Microsoft Photo Editor, [checking under properties with the picture open] the picture was scanned in:-

'True Colour' [24bit] Width 662.  Height 686.  1362396 Bytes.
So I think that your theory is incorrect, if I may be so bold.

I have also pulled pictures off the threads which have been done at higher scans and they still seem to come out at 96 or 72 DPI when resized.

Several people have commented on this over the last few months!
