Scanners are not really serviceable. The green images are more likely to be from software degradation. I had this recently on a Mustek A3 scanner. Uninstalled it [the software], reinstalled from disc and problem solved.

So J26red is probably giving you good advice.

If you do not have the original disc you can download the driver here:

Thanks for this info and the link, I am most grateful

Hi Rabbit  :)

When you plugged your new scanner in, did it say anything about 'New Hardware detected' or words to that effect?

If you didn't get this message, it might be that your computer is not talking to the new scanner.

Gadget

Hi Gadget,

They are chatting and happy now, so all is well thank heaven, but there is a lot to learn with the new software.  I was barmy enough to think that the same make might be similar!  Not a chance!  ::)

Paula was right I did have to fiddle with the plugs and things or rather OH did bless him!

Fingers crossed I can learn all the tricks on it now!

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your link.

Irene, you are wonderful,

That is brilliant and has made my day.

Thank you so very very much. This picture was taken in 1941 in Canada, so it is very precious, Dad was sent there with the School of Air Navigation.

They trained the pilots over there for the RAF, as well as the navigators.

the real test is to rescan the original of  the "green" photo and compare
Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.

Here is my first scan! The software reduces it by half and then as I have not yet found out how to save it to anywhere, I had to reduce it, I did it at 300 dpi, complex software and I am on a steep learning curve.  ::)  I am puzzled why it states 72dpi now though?  This is going to take a while to figure out!  ???

If your HP scanner is anything like mine, there are some boxes to the right hand side of the image where you set the desired DPI and colour depth.  I think the better quality HP scanners always scan at a higher DPI, and then scale down if necessary.  I'm fairly sure you can make your desired settings the default ones, via these menus.  I'm sure jc26red will be able to help you more, as she obviously has a lot of experience with HP products.

Glad to see you got it all going  :)

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.
