Hi Jenny,

Thank you for your prompt reply.  I haven't got Vista yet so just want a cheapie to see out my old XP.

I think a trip to Reading is called for.  ::)

Thanks for your help, I am most grateful for your advice, I will look at the others including the Epson.

Not necessarily..... take a look at www.ebuyer.com or www.dabs.com - it's usually about £7 for next-day delivery !

Thanks Nick,

You are most kind.  I like to see what I am buying though when it comes to things like this and I also like to be able to throw it back at them if I get a problem.

I would value yours and Jc's opinion on the cheap HP flatbed one, it looks a bit like the one I have got you see.

I can't cope with anything too complex, so what is the general consensus of your opinions, please!

Thanks so much for your time!

HP are OK, but I think I would go for a Canon Lide scanner - there are several models in the range.  I already have a base model Canon Lide, which I carry with my laptop, when I'm going somewhere where I think there may be photos or documents to scan, like family gatherings.  For home use I have an HP All-In-One 2820 which is a Laser printer, fax, scanner, copier (part of my home office).

Hi,
I had a similar prob with my Scanner recently. I went to  Control Panel & removed
the Scanner Software. Disconnected the Scanner. Restarted the Computer.
Reinstalled the Software & Scanner. Works fine now!
             Best of luck,

That's the first thing to try Terry, but hopefully Rabbit has already reinstalled her scanner software.  Her scanner is quite old now in IT terms (8-9 years old) although it was top range when it first came out the new ones are lot quicker and quiter to use.

Rabbit, if you prefer to go to a shop and buy, Novatech has an outlet in Reading and I can thoroughly recommend them (no connections other than a satisfied customer, I usually buy my IT stuff from there or ebuyer)
You can order online through Novatech and either have it delivered or pick it up from the store, they have their own car park so no walking involved. You also have the peace of mind knowing you have somewhere to take it back to if there is a problem.
www.novatech.co.uk  for directions

I only have a low-end Epson all in one at home, but have considered buying the Cannon Lide for the exact purpose that Nick has one for...  :D
Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.

Hi jc26red,

Call me a dill, but wouldn't have thought of that, so I will cross my fingers and give it a go. I will trot off to Novatech and have a look at the others as well.

It is so kind of you to recommend them, I go to the store near the Prison usually, because it has a lot of parking and not far to walk as a rule, but I am going to go and have a proper look at them this time.

I don't get out enough lately so it will do me good!  Thanks so much.

Thank you Nick,

I had wondered about the Cannons, I only said about the HP because mine has been so good for so long.

I will have a go at all these things suggested and report back to you all.

Thanks so much for your time and trouble.
