Can I fix my scanner to preserve this picture?
« on: Tuesday 09 June 09 15:09 BST (UK) »
Hi all you very clever people,

Does anyone know why I have suddenly started to get lines on pictures scanned at anything higher than 200dpi

I have even had the pictures come up green!  Please can anyone advise me about this and would you be kind enough to restore this very precious picture from 1941

Thank you all

My son, who works in IT, says it is possible that either the lamp or the sensor are failing.  He doesn't think these can be replaced, so unfortunately it means buying a new one.

Do you mean 'when you print them?'  If 'yes', check your ink levels. Stripes often mean shortage of ink.

It could be dust on the censer. See if you can remove the glass and clean it.
Please scan photos at 300dpi or higher. Thank you.

These stripes don't look like printer induced problems but appear to indicate a hardware problem with the scanner.

Hi  :)
I seem to get this same problem when I print photos ??? but not when I print documents/text ???

I would be interested to see if this can be resolved :)

Hi! Lookingforold,
Yes the printer is more than likely the trouble. Ink level in most cases. or sometimes cheap compatable cartridges.
Kind Regards

It is NOT an ink problem, as the image has been scanned, not printed.

It is a hardware problem with the scanner.

I don't think it's a printer problem - if you look closely at the scanned picture, the lines are already on it.   I would agree that it's either a lamp or sensor problem, but it doesn't really matter, because it would cost more to repair than a new one.

Here's a blow-up of the scanned image - you can see the lines.....

Best Wishes,  Nick.
