Hi,

If you look on the IGI there is a baptism for a Charles Jacobs in Eton - a couple of miles from Clewer - April 1797 (no exact date given), son of William and Mary.

I have Clewer PRs on CD and the marriage entry describes both of them as of this parish but neither of them were baptised there. There are Maslin (etc) baptisms to a William & Elizabeth from 1802, so possibly Margaret was an earlier child born elsewhere before the family moved to Clewer.  :-\

Thanks Jill, lol, really frustrating eh when they are your 3x Grt Grandparants? I really feel as tho I should know them (well about them). Could you do me a huge favour & list the children that the Maslin/Maslyn's had please? As you know they had a great habit of naming them all the same names, so you can usually get a rough idea of whether they are related or not.
Can't say I've ever used the IGI, thanks Emsey.

Emsey,

First of all - get yourself onto the IGI!

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

you're missing a lot!!

Here are the Clewer baptisms for Maslin (which should also be on the IGI!!):

May 30 1802 William s/o William & Elizabeth
Dec 16 1804 John      "     "
Jul 26 1807 Thomas     "        "

I also had another look at Margaret & Charles' marriage entry on Oct 16 1818 in case there's that little nugget of info which might mean something to you! They're both otp, bachelor & spinster. Witnesses were Thomas Dobson & Ann Vicars.
You're probably aware that Clewer is situated so that - like with Charles Jacobs who came from Eton in Bucks - you only have to go a few miles and you're looking in Bucks, Surrey, Middlesex, Oxfordshire.  ::)

:D Thanks Jill, much appreciated, now that I have the link I will use it! Sorry to say living in Australia I have no idea  :P of the Villages & County's in England. Most of my ancestors are from Cornwall & that's totally confusing with Parishes & Countys & goodness knows what, so I will have to get myself a map!
Another query, pardon my ignorance  ??? (you wouldn't know that I have been doing my tree for 8yrs now,) but what is an otp please?? Yeh, I know you're lol, but if I don't ask I don't learn! I hate abbreviations & genealogy is full of them. Now that I've brightened your day with a good chuckle, I will leave you & go check the IGI. Cheers Emsey. Looking forward to learning what an otp is.

Hi Emsey,

Sorry - it can be bloomin' annoying when people use abbreviations and assume you know what they're talking about, so apologies for that.

Otp is simply 'of this parish' which is often written in marriage entries in parish records but I've found doesn't mean much, as I think the parties involved could have only been living there for a few weeks to be classed as 'of this parish'!!

I'm surprised you haven't come across the IGI in 8 years of genealogy, but you have a treat in store!! Good hunting!

Hi Jill, yes, I have come across it but didn't you have to pay for it once? Seem to remember some of my members saying that they were members of, or had access to, IGI & I understood that you had to pay for it. Surprisingly I ran 5 genealogy groups for 5 yrs & never had much time for looking up, so my members used to do it for me, when I did do it it was on the run so naturally, never achieved much from my own research, except frustration! Met lots of wonderful people though.  ;D Cheers, Emsey.

Hi Jill, been meaning to tell you I think your Grt Grandfather looks wonderful, the perfect image of what a G.G. should look like!
I tried to download a record from the IGI but it just didn't happen, so thought I may have to pay, I will try again today, cheers Emsey.
