Hi
Trying to clear up a real puzzle. I wonder if somebody could look up two baptisms in the Billingley/Darfield/Wath region. The first is Josiah Mitchell born 1836, likely illegitimate child of William Herring and Harriett Mitchell. The other is another son born to Harriett and he is MARK b. c.1837. The family were living at Billingley in 1841 so these two were probably both born there, but because they were illegitimate it is likely Harriett took them to a different parish for baptism. On the 1841 and 1851 Mark is shown with the surname Herring, but in later life he calls himself Mitchell. Gratefull thanks Fairfax.
