The only darracot listed as Mayor of Plymouth was Greenhill Darracot. Greenhill was mayor of plymouth from 1735 to 1736.

Greenhill worked a a surveyor in plymouth

Hello.  This may be a bit late for you - I've only just discovered this site>

Lt. Henry Young Darracott RN (1757-1807)was the grandson of Greenhill Darracott.  The whole family was quite wealthy and prominent in Plymouth in the period 1660- 1820 or so.  Henry did indeed have money problems (the story goes that he gambled away the family estates) and shot himself in 1807 (verdict was suicide).

I have been researching the Plymouth Darracotts for nearly 30 years now and have a vast amount of family history data, too much to go into here.  Feel free to ask more questions here, but if you'd like to get in touch by email, I'd be happy to answer any fuller queries.

BTW: Henry's son - Cdr Robert Young Man Darracott RN settled in Liverpool, and was the progenitor of almost all the Darracotts born in Liverpool and Merseyside since about 1840.

Hello,

I'm new here and need two posts before I can pm anyone.  This is my second.

I'm sorry if bumping old threads is frowned upon but this thread is exactly what I'm looking for.  I don't know if there are any others interested in the Darracott family history.  Anyway the Cdr. Robert Young Man Darracott mentioned above is my great great great grandad.

I would love to get hold of more info about this and it sounds like bwdarracott  has loads of stuff.

Unfortunately he/she hasn't logged on here since November 2010.  I don't know if anyone can help with this.  Perhaps there is a way to email someone without having their email address.  Perhaps through the moderators.

I'd love to get as much info as I can on the Darracotts because I'm trying to put together my father's family tree for a Christmas present.

If anyone's interested I have a partial tree for the Commander above through to the present Richards family.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Barry,

Thanks for your message.  I'd be happy to pass on lots of info that you need.  I got your personal message, but can't work out how to reply to it.  Can you send me another, with an email address to which I can send you some data,

Regards,
Brian
