Hi Malmsbury... I dont see any sign of a marriage for John and Catherine or other children on that website, and the RC records for Killarney go back to about 1792. Maybe they came from a nearby parish where older records dont exist.

Perter  - I'm not sure I get the connection to this thread.. where was Ellen Flynn born ?  Do you have details on her parents ?

Searching for Co. Cork parish records (largest county in Ireland) without further location details will be very difficult, and Flynn is quite a common surname increasing the number of possible matches. Without details of parents I cannot see any way to verify any possible records you find.

Parish records for some parts of Cork City and west county are on the IrishGenealogy website mentioned above. Some other parts of the county are only available on a pay website (IFHF)

Thankyou Shanew yes that is my family  ;D :)

just wondering ....on the Elgin passenger list Ellen is listed as an orphan. If so - would her father be included in Griffith's, which is dated 1853 for Killarney ? (mentioned in 1st post in this thread)

In the Elgin passenger lists all the passengers were orphans.

I have studied Workhouse history quite a bit.. it doesn't necessarilly mean that both parents were deceased, but children had nothing more to do with parents when admitted to care(if you want to call it that) of a workhouse.
Even husbands & wives if admitted were kept apart.

My only hope of finding Ellen Flynns parents would be if the workhouse she was in kept records.. some did.. some didnt

Yes Keren.. we are on same track..
I am waiting for St George Church, Gawler to do search for Enoch & Margaret wedding details.
Can tell you (much to my suprise) the church is Anglican as is church in Burra where Thomas & Ellen wed.
