Hello again Crabby,

I forgot to mention that you have Isaac Gales (b.1809) m. to Elizabeth? b.1812.  I can't find anything on Isaac beyond his birth.  However, there is a family of Gales in Littlehampton, Sussex, although I can't trace a connection.  Do you have evidence that these are our Gales?
Regards, 8 Rossal

G'day kellygang

Thank you for your response.

Do you have information on the Maiden name and date and place of birth of Theodosia?
Were there any children from the marriage with Bennison?

Regards

I'm trying to find the family of my 5th GGF Capt. George Bennison (b. Abt 1750) who came to New York during the Revolution.  All I know is that he was from Yorkshire. I'm assuming possibly Sheffield area. Common names in this family then were George, James, John, Samuel and Edward.  Don't know anything else about him unfortunately.  Were the Bennisons a large family in Yorkshire ?

My records show a George Benison the fifth child of Thomas and Catherine Benison in the Parish of Bentham - West Riding of Yorkshire. Thomas was the curate of Melling his son George is also officiating at a marriage service in 1784-5. This is the only George I can find in my records of the WR of Yorkshire in the 1700's. The Benisons are in this area back to the 1600's.

Children of Thomas and Catherine were John 1743, Elizabeth 1746, Catherine 1748, James 1750, George 1755, Catherine again 1757, Mary 1760, Then Jane daughter of Revd Mr Benson 24th May 1763.
If you are looking at someone born in 1750 what dates are your revolution, I am thinking 1775 to 1783 which does not quite fit with the George above, possible I suppose, if he went to America with the British army ??? , we had a militia system a bit like conscription we were a troublesome lot what with France and Africa etc.. My 3 times gr grandfather was a driver of cattle if called, apparently they took their food on the hoof, he was called on once and went to York driving a herd, to the assembly point, where they were told it was a false alarm, a burning haystack was thought to have been a call to arms, signal beacon.
