George James b.1771-74 in Bristol?

Hi
I am looking for information on George James who according to his death cert and the 1851 census was born in Bristol. In combination these suggest he was born sometime between 1771-1774. He moved to Lewes, Sussex around 1800 and married Sophia Eger.
Word of mouth family history suggests he was from South Wales, though this may relate to his parents.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
Andy

There are 3 on a baptism index cd in those years.
21/3/1771 at Mangotsfield, parents William & Sarah.
9/2/1772, Mangotsfield, parents Samuel & Mary,
9/10/1774 Westerleigh father Daniel , question mark for mother's name.
Popular name.

Andy,
I can give no direct help but perhaps I'll point you in another direction.
I note that the George X Sophia marriage was in Rodmell Sussex and the extracted info is given in Batch M148211. The Source Call number (film number) is 1067260 and if you click on it you'll see the data was extracted from Rodmell's parish registers items 8 - 16 on the film. If you click on the PRs you'll be given more details then choose, "View Film notes" and you'll be told that one of the film's items is, "Marriages and Banns 1756 to 1812"
If you hire and search the Banns records in the above film at an LDS FHC you might find where George said he came from when the Banns were called. It just might be his birthplace and divert your travels elsewhere
Regards
Chas
P.S. An interesting point and one to be remembered by all who use the Hugh Wallis site at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle
is that the batch number M148211 is not in HW's site but C148212 is! It often pays to add or subtract or change prefix to batch numbers.
