Hi John,

Have been working away on this. Most information has been posted by cando.

I have him in earlier census entries do not see him in 1891 - One thing which has not been posted is the immigration - I wonder if he he may have arrived in Tasmania

Mr R F CROSS 21 single farmer departed Plymouth 15 Nov 1890 aboard the KAIKOURA which was headed for New Zealand. His destination was listed Hobart. No further information unfortunately. Everybody else on the page was listed as destination Wellington.

Cheers Kris  :)

No electoral enrolment for a Richard Frederick in Tasmania on the 1903 roll.  Of course if it is him arriving in Tasmania, he may have left that State by 1903.

The only possible PEARL/CROSS marriages I can find on freebdm -

Marriages Sep 1841
CROSS James    Lexden    12/181
PEARL Anna Maria  Lexden 12/181

Marriages Sep 1860
CROSS William John Bradfield 2c/507
PEARL  Elizabeth    Bradfield   2c/5077

The 2nd marriage appears to be for the parents of the Richard Frederick b. 1870.

Yes it appears to be the same family. (Childrens names match - also older ones although mother is Elizabeth not Mary.)

possibly

William John CROSS = Elizabeth PEARL Sep 1/4 1860 Bradfield 2c 50

I did find Annie working and Frank with relatives in 1891 but did not locate Richard. That thread is from 2005 so hopefully John will have more information, and was possibly wrong re mothers name at that time.  :-\

Reading the previous postings it appears that there was a sister Annie b. Truro Cornwall and a brother Frank.  May be only a coincidence but Richard had younger siblings Annie and Frank.
