George James b.1770s, lived in Lewes, Sussex
« on: Sunday 31 May 09 03:45 BST (UK) »

Hi

I'm looking for information on George James who resided at Lewes from around 1800. He married Sophia Eger in 1801 at Rodmell. I've found him in the 1851 and 1841 census data. The former suggested he was born in Bristol, Somerset in 1773. The latter ex-Sussex in 1778. I've also located his death cert from 1853.

Anecdotal family history suggests he was born in South Wales and move with a brother to Sussex around 1800. George lived in Lewes while the brother apparently went to Newhaven.

In particular I'm looking for details of his birth/christening and his parents/family. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy

I tried the Sussex Family History Group baptism database and found one but don't know how likely it is.

George James baptised 26 December 1777 at Hailsham, St Marys to Thomas and Sarah James

Might be useful to persue him though so that you can discount or otherwise.  Do you know the name of his brother?
