1920 & 1930 US census lookup please
« on: Sunday 31 May 09 00:15 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I would be grateful if someone could do a lookup for Bessie Cayley b.1882 in Steyning, Sussex, England or any of her siblings. She emigrated with her mother Emma b.1851 Bath Somerset and siblings, Benjamin Francis. b.1874 Bath Somerset England, Ellen C. b.1877 Steyning, Sussex, Margaret Louisa b.1880 Steyning, Sussex and Kathleen Emma b.1886, Steyning, Sussex after the death of their Husband/Father. They emigrated to Douglas, Nebraska and this is the info found for the 1900 US census, I've put their full given names in brackets -
Peter Brennan, head, 44, b. Jun 1855, married 9 years, b. Ireland, parents b. Ireland, immigrated 1879, naturalized, stone mason, rents his house
Emma Brennan, wife, 46, b. Sept 1853, married 9 years, 5 children born, 5 still alive, b. England, parents b. England, immigrated 1886, no naturalization status recorded,
(Benjamin Francis)Frank Cayley, stepson, 26, b. Jan 1874, England, parents born England, immig 1886, teamster
(Margaret Louisa)Maggie Cayley, stepdaughter, 20, b. Mar 1880, b. England, parents born England,immig 1886, (no occupation)
Bessie Cayley, stepdaughter, 16, b. Sept 1893, b. England, parents born England, immig 1886, sales lady store
(Kathleen Emma)Katie Cayley, stepdaughter, 14, b. Mar 1886, b. England, parents born England, immig 1886, (no occupation)

1021 South Twentieth Street
Omaha Ward 2, Douglas, Nebraska
Roll: T623_923 Page: 6B; Enumeration District: 11.

I believe that Emma died at some point before 1920 and its possible the children may have moved elsewhere.

Any assistance or info would be appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

Many thanks for your time and effort. Probably the girls have married and moved on by this time.
As for Benjamin Francis(Frank), I suppose he could have moved to another State or even have died. I'm going to try coming at this branch of the family from another angle and see if I can find other UK relatives in the hope that they may have some info.
Thanks again.

Andy, I did a bit of looking around and I don't see the girls in the States.  It is a difficult search, since they used nicknames, but I tried searches not using their surnames and didn't see anything.  (It wasn't a thorough search, however.)   I also didn't see Benjamin Frank.

Could the family have possibly returned to England?

Hi Lisa,
Its a possibility I had'nt considered, but in light of them not being found in the US easily, I shall have to look into that.
Thanks for your time and effort.

Hi Anna,
Someone checked 1910 for me and was unable to find them, but I think that was before I got the 1900 info. In light of the family using nicknames and derivatives of their full given names they may be easier to find, so if you come across them, the info would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Andy

I have found all the children of Benjamin and Emma Burge Cayley except their son Benjamin Francis (Frank) Cayley. I am wondering if any of you have found a lead on him.  Any information I have I will be happy to share.
