Robert HILL and Mary Ann ????

Hi,
I am trying to find information about this couple, in particular Mary Ann's maiden name. The 1881 census states they were both born in Bath, Somerset. Their daughter Emily Jane was born in Bristol in1855 and they still lived in Bristol in 1881.

Any ideas??

EDIT; I am not so sure about this now after finding them on 1861 Census as there are 2 older children Unless the first 2 are not Roberts and Mary Ann was a widow.

I will have to follow them thru 1851/1871/1841/1891/etc censuses to see what i come up with first.
1861 census seems correct though as Robert has same occp as 1881 and son robert.g. is still living with them.

Back later today as you have gone off-line and I must too-shopping

There are several possibilities for Emily Jane Hill's birth reg. 1853/1856. Just searching under Emily there is one in Sherbourne reg. district.

Or it could be any of the others reg in another district.

The 1881 census you have found is there only Robert/Mary Ann and son Robert George Hill at the residence?

1851 census Robert is married but living away from home, possibly setting up house for family to join him? as they are living there 1861. So we are looking for a marriage pre 1851 now. Index says he is born Ball, but image definitely Bath.

Go to go out but have found Mary Ann Hill and daughter Fanny.M.A. living with Robert Hills parents in 1851
So you have another generation now.

The only way you are really going to be able to confirm Mary Anns maiden name is to purchase  the marriage cert of one of the children .
