Seasons Greetings to you both Pat and Megabugs,

I am ready all ready for a big move to a new thread. I have asked Sarah to split the thread. Please alter your Subject Headings to read Re: Irish in the Spanish Civil War. Sarah may move our messages before you are on line again but in case you are on line before her it will make it easier for to spot the messages. By the way, when looking through messages on other threads, if you spot an email address please drop Sarah a line. Email addresses are not meant to be shown on messages on the boards. They make things for spammers and other characters floating around. Their removal helps to protect both yourselves and RootsChat.

I have some more Christmas reading for you Megabugs. There was an Irish Army at the time of the Spanish Civil War, but I have found no mention fo them sending any troops to Spain. This site mentions the countries who sent troops there and also supplied arms and vehicles - http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8994

All the Best,  Chris

Hi,

My Great Grandfather was stationed at Portobello.

The Barracks was called "Marshalsea Barracks" at that time.

He was a Colour Sergeant with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and there is a lot of history available on their time in Dublin and elsewhere. I've only just started looking through it!

Hope this is of some help to you.

Regards

Hello there.
Thankyou for the info. I'm not sure where my Father served or even which regiment. All I know at the moment is that he was a member of his regiments gymnastics & fencing (sword not stolen goods ::))teams but I will keep trying.

regards
Irene
