There were 2 railway stations in little Hay!
The Hereford Hay and Brecon line was one and the Golden Valley line [a victorian financial disaster] was the other.
There are books about both of them

Thanks Puffcat. My family have often talked of the Hereford to Brecon line. It's a pity it got axed by Doctor Beeching. I didn't know about the Golden Valley line.

Best wishes,

After looking at the parish records for St. Owen, Hereford City I can confirm that Frederick James Hyett married an Alice Philpotts at St. Owen parish church 7 Mar 1871.

Frederick was listed as a 25 year old bachelor, resident of Llanwonno, Glamorgan. His profession was given as a Railway Police Constable and his father was Robert Hyett listed as a groom.

Alice Philpotts was listed as a 21 year old spinster, resident of Bath Street, Hereford. Her father was given as James Philpotts and his profession was given as a Police Constable.

Best wishes,

I'm a newbie here - I am descended from Alfred Ernest mentioned in this thread, back through James Percival, Frederick James and Robert.
ELLEN; HYETT; BUCKIE (BUCKEE); BUTCHER; BRIDGWATER; MASTERS; BARHAM; MORGAN; BRUNDLE (BRUNDELL);  TOWNSEND; REEVE; STRACHAN; TWIGGS; HALPIN; CLOW; HARTLAND; WALKER; SAUNDERS; BATTERSEA; LLANDINABO; HEREFORDSHIRE; GLOUCESTERSHIRE; SIDDINGTON; KEMBLE; WANDSWORTH; WILTON; LAMBETH; SOUTH NORWOOD; MALTA; SHROPHAM; DEVIZES;  the earlier a surname or place appears in the above list, the closer to my direct line.,

Hi Nelletap,

I found Alfred Ernest in the 1901 census living in Leominster. He was listed as a painter and decorator who was married to an Emily J.  Good luck with your search.

Hi, my great grand father was James P Hyett from Hay, I have been tracing the Hyett's since 1975 ish. James was also a JP and a bellringer. I have quite a lot of information on Jim if you are interested. Fred his Dad was a policeman in Herefordshire, he was PC 321, all his police record is in the Hereford Records office. My relationship with Jim is, his daughter Alice married Albert Watkins and had 12 children, one of them being my father Clive Watkins. I have also looked into the Jones from Marden (Jim's Wife side)
