WARD/CHANDLER Marriage - Soulbury 1783
« on: Wednesday 27 May 09 21:54 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know about the Thomas Ward (of Leighton Buzzard) who married a Frances Chandler (otp) at Soulbury, Bucks, on 13 Oct 1783?  I can trace Frances back to 1556 but cannot find the parents of Thomas Ward.  His baptism is not recorded in the Leighton Buzzard register but there is a possibility that he came from Lavendon, Bucks.

   This is nearer...

Thomas Wards bapt 14 March 1756 Hockliffe Beds father Hugh mother Elizabeth.
  Siblings     Elizabeth 1743                William 1745    Mary 1748        mary 1750
                     Ann    1752.
However a marriage for this couple does not show up for Bedfordshire in transcribed records.

Hockliffe being just outside Leighton Buzzard.

Hi Tazzie,

Thank you very much for your helpful reply re Thomas Ward or Wards.  It does seem to be a likely possibility for him.  My next step will have to be - did this one bring up a family in Hockliffe or did he move away?

Best wishes,  Roy.

   Hi

Without checking burials to see if he died early there is no marriage in Hockliffe for a Thomas Ward.

However did your Thomas marry more than once?

As I can see this also.... Thos Ward of Hockliffe
to Mary Southam of Soulbury   15 Dec 1786 in Soulbury.
Then also in 1799     Thos Ward to Eliz. Becket  both of Soulbury. 23 April 1799.

However more than help that may confuse things. It may be worth me having a look for the baptsim of his children  if they are in Soulbury and if I come across baptisms to Thos & Frances and Thos & Mary at the same time we know we have two different families.

Can you tell me the names of any of his children and if they are baptised in Bucks.

Hi Tazzie.

Thank you very much for being so helpful.  You really are marvellous.
I found four children of Thomas and Fanny WARD, nee CHANDLER, all born in Heath and Reach and baptised in Leighton Buzzard. They are -
Charlotte bapt. 29 Aug 1784
Zilpah  bapt.  19 Feb 1786,  bur. 20 Aug 1801
Sophia  bapt.  22 Jan 1789,   bur.  1 June 1849
Martha  bapt.  10 Sept 1790

I think therefore that "my" Thomas Ward cannot be the same person as the Thomas WARD of Hockliffe who married Mary Southam in 1786
It is possible however that he could have been widowed and then married Elizabeth Becket in 1799.    It would be nice to find the burial of a Fanny or Frances WARD between 1790 and 1799 but it would not help in finding the parents of Thomas WARD.

Again, many thanks for all your help.  Roy
