Hi Netty,

are you sure of the names?  My transcript for St. Germain's Marske shows a marriage for George WHITAKER (one T) to Hannah DOBSON  (not Watson) 25th November 1830

Burials at St. Peter's Redcar include a Richard Dobson WHITTAKER aged 6 months buried 22 Feb 1838
other WHITTAKER burials there are:
 William    aged  3   2nd March 1843
 Margaret aged 1½ 8th March 1843
 George    aged 3    5th Feb 1850
 Robert     aged 5    14 Feb  1854
 Jane        aged 3     22 Aug 1858
 Arthur William aged 1  13th Sept 1872

Hi Netty

Thanks for your pm.  So it was Hannah Dobson  :)

Do you have all the census for the family?  I see George was a Fishmonger

The 1851 census gives his age as 48 and birthplace Nainton, the 1861 as 61 and Newton, 1871 70 and again Newton, which should help to find his baptism and parents.  I guess this is Newton-under-Roseberry unless he came from further afield

There is IGI coverage of Newton, but there don't seem to be any Whitakers baptised or married there.
The records will probably be at Northallerton

Hi Netty

Have had another thought, had a look at census and there are Whitakers in Newton upon Derwent, near Wilberfoss, Yorks
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ERY/Wilberfoss/index.html

IGI has coverage of Wilberfoss
baptisms for a George b.1803, parents George and Sarah, and one born 1801, parents William and Sarah
