Hi Trish and Jennifer

Yes this is exactly what I have done I have ordered the marriage certificate - should get it early June and then I will go from there.

Yes I had noticed the Durham birth certificate but thought as you suggest best to wait until I get the marriage certificate. Still can't get my head around the fact that someone born in Gateshead would say they were born in Newcastle - two completely different places of course there is only a river separating them.  Maybe in the 1800's things were not quite so clear cut.

I had noticed the person on ancestry and have sent them a message but they haven't responded - I am not sure they even know that Mary Isabella's maiden name is Noble as they have her listed in her married name Crozier so maybe they can't help anyway.

Again thank you both for you help it is really appreciated.

Ros  :)

Don't forget that the census schedule was filled out by the head of the household, not by the individuals mentioned thereon. Her husband might have mistakenly thought she had been born in Newcastle. Or he might simply have guessed and never even asked.
I have people in my tree who are ascribed Northumberland and Durham as birthplaces in alternate censuses.
Let us know what the certificate has to say on the matter.

Jennifer

Hi Trish

I have tried to find the 1891 census data but no luck have typed in the reference you gave but it doesn't seem to make any difference  ???- was there anything unusual about this entry like a misspelt surname or do you just have really special talents when it comes to this sort of thing  - I have noticed that both you and Jennifer are referred to as aristocrats and I am tagged as an extra so I assume that means that you are both very experienced :)

Hi Trish and Jennifer

I addressed my last message to the wrong person - it was you Jennifer who found the 1891 census - sorry for confusing you  :-\

You have both been so helpful  :)

cheers

I have tried to find the 1891 census data but no luck have typed in the reference you gave but it doesn't seem to make any difference

Simply enter the reference into the 'census' panel at the bottom of 1891 search page as follows: piece 4241; folio 34; page 9. Don't put anyhing else at all into the search.

Doing this will show you everyone on that particular page, among them a (wrongly transcribed) 'Grozier' family.

Trish and I are (so-called) 'Aristocrats' simply on the basis of the number of postings we have made on Rootschat.  ;)

 ;D ;D Found it

Can see how it happened too - the 'I' of Mary is just below the name Crozier so it makes the C look like a G.

Thanks for that  :)

Cheers
