German gr grandfather Rudolf Bischoff/Bishop
« on: Sunday 24 May 09 23:29 BST (UK) »
I have found out recently that my gr grandfather was from Berlin Germany, his name was Rudolph Bishcoff/Bishop. The last trace of him was on the 1911 census. I have been told that he was interned by some of the family the others say he went back to Germany before ww1 started. I have looked at all the passenger list with no trace and have tried the Kew Archives with no luck either, on his marriage certificate it say's he worked in a suger refinery in Liverpool, I don't know when he came to England, but he married my gr grandmother in 1898 and had seven children. I am now trying to find out if he went back to Germany and if he did, where in Germany did he live. I have only just become a member and the information on this site helps a lot. :)

Thank you. I know that on the 1911 census he had left the suger refinery and went to work as a shipping clerk, I will have a read of your link and hopefully it might lead me to other things

I see from the 1911 census that he was born 1867 and is shown as Rudolph Bishop

I cannot see an 1898 marriage for him under Bishop or Bishcoff nor can I find him on the 1901 to check his birthplace/occupation

I do have the marriage certificate and i do know he was staying in a boarding house in Pluto street, Liverpool this is where he met my gr grandmother as it was her mother who run the boarding house. I read on one of the roots chat that if i get in touch with the Red cross in Genever they might have him on record and this might tell me where in Berlin he was born. I have tried the 1901 census and i could not find  any trace of them either.

Have you looked for BISCHOF which is German for bishop? I do not believe that BISHCOFF exists.
