I have only just started researching. My dad was also Polish Russian ie he was born in a forced labour camp in Russia. Many Poles were rounded up and taken to these camps. I think they started pre-gulag era. I don`t know if they were in existence in 1901 but bits of Poland were annexed aat various periods of time. There is a lot of Polish history to research and the Poles were fiercely protective of their nationality even if the were made to live in what became Russia. I am not hopeful of finding any records as there is little enough on the net.

If I were you I would start by looking at prussia

What was his last name? Try checking www.SurnameIndex.info first. In general, there are a lot of places you can start researching, but you need some basic facts (for example, village name or university someone in the family studied...).
