AVG Free 8.5 download; help please.

Sorry you're still having problems.  I've not heard of the AVG download manager causing a computer to switch off, very strange.

The actual AVG install file is around 62Mb in size, if you are using a 56k dial-up connection, then at maximum throughput it would take around 3.2 hours to download. So you would certainly need some method of resuming the download from your 2 hour cut off point.

The idea  of AVG from a magazine cover disk is quite good if you are able to find one.

If you have no success, if you wish to, send me a private message with your postal address. I'll download the current version and send it to you on CD.

Hi Celia,

Thanks for your thoughts on this;  unfortunately nothing seems to be working at the moment.  The AVG download is still only about 50% when the 2 hour dial-up expires.

Maybe your computer is like mine was it was slow,it should continue downloading where it left off.When i downloaded mine at first it said it would take 7 hours I remember now it did go into a third day, and i wasn't constricted to 2 hours so if yours has only downloaded 50% in 4 hours it should be finished by tomorrow Monday

Whatever you decide to do,once it has downloaded and you have downloaded it to your computer.Have you cleaned your registry lately,that is a main cause of slow computers i do mind every 2 weeks.When i was on dial-up it was like being on broadband once i did that.

Celia.......Cleaned a registry?  Never heard of that; it's bad enough cleaning the house!

As I'm home all day today I'm having yet another attempt to download the "manager"..............

one of the avg sites is a virus the more you delete it the more trouble it causes
we rang norton and it took 2 hours for them to clean and cost over $100

Nanny Jan, There is a program called Auslogic, which will clean your registry and most other things for you. The download is relatively small, and the free trial version is complete but limited to 14 days unlike most of them. It has certainly speed my system up quite a lot.

Update:

Started the "manager", got to 60% (after a pause and resume) and then the computer just shut down..........

Time for a reviving cuppa for me and a long think about what to do next.
