AVG Free 8.5 download; help please.

The AVG security has expired on my lap top and I now get a pop-up message to install new AVG Free 8.5.

I am on a dial-up internet access which gives 2 hours maximum; this is not long enough for the AVG to download.

Advice please in plain language ......I still have computer "L" plates up!

Hi,

Assuming you are using MS windows...

AVG have a download manager that will allow you to resume an interrupted download. Details of how it works are here: http://www.avg.com/faq.num-1612

Alternatively, you could ask someone with a broadband connection to download AVG for you and put it onto a CD so you can install from there.

It can often be found on the DVD cover discs on computer magazines which might be an alternative way of getting it

Thanks Robert; had not thought of that route.   At the moment everytime I try to download the manager suggested the computer turns itself off.

I was on Dial up until February,I downloaded A.V.G the way Paul recommended.I don't remember having to download a download manager though.It took over two sitting at the computer over 2 days. Its good really because you can start your download then minimize it so it works in the back ground.While you get on with something else,when you come off your computer.You just stop the download FIRST or it might get corrupted.Then restart it next time you go on the net.

I tried that,but because the friend had norton he couldn't install it.I have A.V.G so i cant install in again,What i could do and i know it works.I still have the download file,so I can put that on a disk if i wanted.It is really best to download strait from the website though.Then as soon as you have downloaded it.You don't get the. "You A.V.G is out of Date"  I also tried looking on magazines for a disk but they haven't done that for a long time

Hi Celia,

Thanks for your thoughts on this;  unfortunately nothing seems to be working at the moment.  The AVG download is still only about 50% when the 2 hour dial-up expires.

Will have another attempt today.
