BRASS Family - Co Durham pre 1840
« on: Wednesday 23 February 05 06:34 GMT (UK) »
Does anybody have an interest in the BRASS family.
All I have so far is Anne BRASS, b. 1822, Ingleton.  Father was Thomas BRASS.
I have run out of leads on this one - can anybody help?

Hi Steve

I have Brasses in Ingleton in my tree, originating in Appleby, Westmoreland but settling in Ingleton, Co Durham.
The earliest I have, however, is William, born c1833.  The name Thomas recurrs in the family so its conceivable that there is a link.

Hi Steve

I haven't been able to trace William's line yet, but he moved to Ingleton, Durham some time between 1865 / 1870, as his earlier children were all born in Westmoreland.  He was the Sexton at the Church in Ingleton.
He is my ggg grandfather.

cheers

Paul

Hi Steve

The IGI has a Thomas Brass, christened at Whorlton 11 Jan 1778, parents William Brass and Ann.  Possible sister Jane Bras (same parents) christened 8 Mar 1779.

I think my Brass line (originating in Appleby) may be unrelated, but then again, its conceivable thatsome family link drew them to Ingleton.
