Dawson/Walker/Robinson-Tideswell
« on: Thursday 21 May 09 13:14 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Part of my tree has brought me to this area and the names of interest are DAWSON/WALKER/ROBINSON.
Henry Dawson (born 1829) married Ann Walker 1849 and lived here until 1871 when the family moved to Salford. On the 1871 census they are living at 72 Town End,Tideswell. Cannot find them on the 1861. I also can only presume they moved to Salford for work. Why else leave a pretty "village" for the grim industrial town of Salford.
Any info on Tideswell, 72 Town End and of the surnames would be most apprecative.
Many thanks
Tansy

Hi,

I think the family have been transcribed on Ancestry as Danson in 1861  ::)  They were living at Town End, Tideswell.  The reference is RG9/2544 Folio 102 page 24.  They match the family living in Salford in 1871.

If you can`t find them using the above let me know.

Regards,
Mo

Hi,

Many thanks Mo - you are correct. I had to correct another entry census return but never gave it one thought that this would be the case with 1861 and now answers why I couldn't find them.
Maybe I'm too trusting.......... :o
Thanks

I'd guess it would have been work.  Tideswell used to have 2 mills nearby , Litton Mill and Cressbrook Mill.  There were similar sorts of things out in salford I believe.  some of my Ancestors also moved to Salford from Tideswell
