Questions about Firefox
« on: Wednesday 20 May 09 18:40 BST (UK) »
For various reasons, I have moved from IE to Firefox, but I have come across 2 problems thus far.  Can anyone help me?

1]  On my websites, I specify text in the ALT field of an <IMG tag so that, when the reader's mouse hovers over the image, the piece of text appears.  This works OK in IE but nothing appears when I view the page with Firefox

2]  When I view ROOTSCHAT with Firefox, the NOTIFY / NEW TOPIC / NEW POLL buttons don't appear

Rotherham: Andrews / Steel
Easingwold: Snowball / Potter

Hi,

1). The alt attribute is meant to be used as an alternative text if the image is not available, it is not intended to be used as mouse-over text. To show a mouse-over text on images or image-maps, use the title attribute, like this:

<img src="myimage.gif" alt="A description of myimage" title="Text used for mouse-over" />

2). Displays OK here - using Firefox 3.0.10 (rv:1.9.0.10 Gecko/2009042513) running under Linux.

Have you tried a refresh by pressing CTRL=F5 together ?

They appear as normal for me.

Hi,

Not sure about the text/image display issue, but all the buttons are here for me too, I also use FireFox (latest version) with WinXP Pro, SP3 and half a gazzilion FF extensions loaded...

Regards,

Patricia

Works ok for me on a variety of XP and Linux OSs.  You haven't got Java/script blocked have you?  Look under Tools/Options/Content, or if you have Noscript or a similar addon tell it to permit rootschat.

Re 1 - As said,  IE was the villain here in not conforming to the HTML standards

re 2 - This can sometimes happen if you are using Noscript or Adblock unless you add Rootschat to the accepted areas

Works OK for me too.  Don't know what version of Firefox I have, but it's the latest and I've got Windows Vista.

If I can add one further note of praise for FIREFOX, I must say that the Add-Ons are excellent features of FIREFOX.  Once I got used to handling them [or, at least, handling the ones I've come across], I was more than impressed by what they let you do.

Now, why didn't IE think of them?

Thanks again to all
